Their economies in ruins, the belligerant states are bought out by private corporation Ceres-Berman United Security and then merged to form the Federation of Balkan States.
- Though they have yet to encounter any other sentient species, the Systems Alliance begins building a military fleet at Arcturus, at the center of several key mass relays.
- An accident at the Singapore International Airport exposes hundreds of humans to dust-form element zero. Roughly 30% of children born that year develop cancerous growths.
