Staff Lieutenent Riley 'Yukon Five-One' Keating was an Alliance Ranger and expert marksman who served as the second in command of Lt. James Kelbourne. He served as a sniper for Kelbourne's squad. He was renowned for his thick Irish accent, sarcastic wit, and expert aim.
History[]
Riley Keating was born in Canada in 2156 CE to an Alliance fighter pilot and a bodyguard to a small time politician. Keating grew up middle class, mainly raised by his mother as his father was away serving as a fighter squadron leader on the guard force for Arcturus Station. He was noted by most as a womanizer in high school, dating more woman than any of his friends and often sleeping with them, only to end their relationship a few days later. This habit acquired him the sexually transmitted disease, HIV which he throughout his life never grew aware of.
When he was seventeen, his mother, who was still serving as a bodyguard, was gunned down by a group of four political assassins while protecting her reclusive client. Enraged at her death, Keating purchased a high-caliber hunting rifle and proceeded to avenge his mother by gunning down all three surviving gunmen on their way to trial from a three story building across the street from the courthouse. He was later caught but spared a trial from an Alliance recruiter who saw his potential as a marksman. He was offered a simple deal, either take his chances in court, which would almost certainly result in a life sentence, or serve a ten-year term in the Rangers. Keating chose the latter option.
After basic training he was assigned to Lt. James Kelbourne's squad as his second in command. His first assignment was on the Citadel as a part of a counter sniping operation where he with a silenced sniper rifle gunned down three snipers that were intent on killing the council during a public speech with the council and public unaware of the danger. He stayed on the Citadel for five more years until he was transferred to Homnus where he participated in the siege of geth forces there until 2183 CE, where he was sent to the Citadel again, only a week before the attack by Sovereign. On the Citadel he assisted in the defense of the Presidium. From the human embassy he sniped over thirty geth soldiers. After the battle he was sent by the Office of Alliance Territorial Hegemony to help investigate Noveria in search of any evidence of the rachni for the hopes of one day breeding and controlling them. Keating and the rest of his team was ambushed by mercenaries intent on salvaging the site before the Alliance. Keating was killed by an ML-77 Missile Launcher during the attack. He was only five days away from retirement. His body was never recovered.
