Korod is an unusual planet located at the center an otherwise-dead system. Long considered to be a satellite that broke away from either nearby Hayek or Rand, the planet was finally explored by salarian explorers in the late 20th Century, at which point they made a remarkable discovery - the planet was in fact an ancient Dyson sphere, constructed around a massive, still-burning engine core (which the locals called Rha) from korodium, a previously-undiscovered material that absorbed and trapped heat. Further exploration revealed that the subsurface regions were filled with large pipes that were channelling the core's energy to the remains of buildings on the planet's surface. Very little else is currently known about Korod; its only known sentient inhabitants are the highly antisocial skurid, who currently have no interest in conversing with the wider galaxy, and the so-called "Giants of Korod", massive humanoids in full-body korodium armor who spend almost all of their time at the planet's unlivable core.
